Chronology Game Review

Chronology Game Review

Chronology - the game of all time. This fun trivia game does not require you to know exact dates. Just put the events in the right chronological order. The first one to build a timeline of 10 event cards wins!

I was recently sent Chronology  - the game of all time - from a great company, Buffalo Games.  Buffalo Games has been around since 1986 and is the premier manufacturing facility for both party games and jigsaw puzzles in North America today.  Their products have been winning awards since 2005. Not only are they recognized for their products but also for giving back to the community.  Buffalo Games supports Cancer Research by participating in the Rides for Roswell Annual fundraiser.  You can shop for their amazing products here

I have been a lover of games, especially card games since I was young.  When my children were younger we played lots of games together, both board games and card games.  Card games were my preference because they tend to take up less space and have less pieces to lose.  We played hours of Skipbo, Uno, Phase 10, and even Rummy.  As my children got older, the lure of video games reeled them in, and they lost most interest in family games.  They are now 13 and 19, so I find this to be quite typical.

I was a bit skeptical that I could entice either of them to play a few rounds with me, but knowing that my son is a history buff, I decided to approach him.  He was a little hesitant, but I gave it the "help mom out please" approach and he was in.  It took only one round and he was hooked!

Round two was when he obliviated me and won the game before I even had a turn!  Game 3 I held my own and won, so he decided to alter the game to being whoever gets the fifteen first wins!  I still won somehow and I have promised a re-match with him tonight.

I was really amazed at what a great time was had by my 19 year old kid, who is a true video game junky in every aspect.  He is the most plugged in person I have ever known.  So for him to not only sit and play this game with me three times, but to want to repeat it, really tells me it can have huge appeal to almost anyone.

Myself, I am not a history buff by any means, I am really quite bad at it but I still managed to win a game.  The topics cover anything from government, country names and boundaries, to inventions and current events.  Anyone has a chance at winning!  This would be a great way to make history fun for anyone who has less than a keen interest in it.  It doesn't feel like a learning game, but it definitely can be used as one!

The game comes with lots of cards, that are two sided.  So when have you seen all the yellow event cards, just flip them over to the blue for a whole new series of challenges to play.  What you see below is what you get!  A box, the cards and a holder for the cards - I love the simplicity of this game!  No dozens of confusing rules to try to remember nor is there a lot of little parts to keep from getting lost!

This game states for ages 14 and up, I think a bright 12 year old could comfortably play this as well.  I would not recommend it to anyone younger than 12 though.  I enjoyed this game and know it will be a great way for me to spend time with my teen, and I think I may even be able to persuade my mom, who is in her 70's to play a round or two with us.  This is a perfect game to bridge an age gap and have some quality family time together.  It is not complicated at all, is fast paced so no one gets bored, and part of it is luck of the draw so the best in history doesn't necessarily win, nor does the oldest person playing.  This is just a great, fun game that I highly recommend for any family!
